Earthquake In Delhi 20 June – Mild tremors were felt in parts of North India including New Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on Monday at 11:57 am.
The epicenter of the earthquake measuring 4.6 on the richter scale, was Chamoli region.
“The earthquake, which measured 4.6 on the Richter scale, lasted for a few seconds. The epicenter of the earthquake was in Chamoli region of Uttarakhand,” an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) told IANS.
According to the official, there was no immediate report of any loss of life or property, as the tremor lasted for a few seconds.
India Monsoon is yet to unleash its complete fury in Delhi and adjoining states, the Delhi earthquake on June 20 has raised fears among citizens there. The last such earthquake was experienced in Delhi on Apr 4 with the epicenter of that quake near the Indo-Nepal border and measuring 5.7 in the Richter scale.
Jaipal Reddy cautions Delhi on earthquakes
Union Minister for Urban Development S Jaipal Reddy has said that earthquake-resistant measures would be adopted in all new building constructions because Delhi is located in a zone prone to seismic disturbances. According to him, Delhi is located in zone four, which is highly prone to earthquake and Delhi is not ready to face disasters like earthquake.
